Lost my sweet boy because of this food
We had both our dogs on this food for three years due to one of them having allergies. We thought we were doing a good thing feeding a grain free diet. One day my pit started coughing, we thought it was seasonal allergies or maybe he picked up kennel cough since his vaccine was due in a couple weeks. We took him to the the vet and they immediately noticed a heart murmur and wanted to do a chest X-ray. The X-ray revealed he had a severely enlarged heart. The next day he saw a K9 cardiologist who did a echocardiogram and diagnosed him with dilated cardiomyopathy, likely due to diet. We Immediately started to change his diet and he went on several heart meds to try to slow the progression but only 9 days later he laid on the bed and never woke up. Please take the warnings serious.

First review is misleading
The first review is misleading. The risk applies to ALL grain free dog foods; not just this particular brand. It has to do with what these foods are missing. The FDA has yet to give any instructions to owners who are feeding these foods to their pets nor has it recalled grain free foods. This food has been great for my pit bull who has severe allergies. It turned out to also be beneficial for my 13 year old dog. Her liver enzymes had been slowly increasing the last two years and we expected that to continue for the rest of her life. However, on her last recheck we discovered the enzymes are now going down! The only change made over the last year is the switch to this food. Not sure if it's definitely related but I'm not changing a thing!

Please do not feed this to your dog!!!!
Mid-February I brought my dog into the vet for a cough. After an X-ray, we were rushed to a specialty hospital to see a cardiologist ASAP. My dog, a healthy 2-year-old mixed breed, was diagnosed with severe DCM and heart failure. They told us it was likely due to her diet, Zignature Kangaroo Formula, as she was not genetically predisposed to this disease. We fought long and hard, but a month out of her initial diagnosis, the other side of her heart began to fail too. She had fluid accumulating in both her lungs and abdomen at rates we could not control without damaging her kidneys. Her heart was barely pumping. She passed away a week ago. I wish I could describe the complete agony it was to watch her waste away, trying everything I could to heal her heart and having no success. Please do research on the FDA's study, please do not believe that this is a rarity like I did. Understand that there is likely vast underreporting, making this seem like something that only happens to a few unlucky pet parents. Talk with your veterinary, speak with a board-certified veterinary nutritionist and take their advice. Please understand that while this is a complex issue and no, there has been no direct causation found; there is still a correlation. If I had known that Zignature has the second-highest number of cases of nutritional DCM associated with their food, I would have stopped feeding this to my dog immediately and she would still be alive today. Until the FDA knows more, take these warnings and avoid BEG diets. They are NOT worth the risk. The anguish and sorrow I hold in my heart knowing I am responsible for my best friend's death are indescribable. Please feed your dog anything but Zignature and boutique grain-free food.

My Dog is allergic to EVERYTHING!
We have a great dane who has bad skin allergies. We've been feeding him a grain-free, gluten-free, minimal ingredient diet for 3 years. We've never had any problems with this food. We also tried the Science Diet food recommended by one vet and it was horrible for our dog. His skin broke out in itchy hives from all of the grain. A different vet ran a full blood panel and was able to pinpoint his grain and gluten allergy. We ended up having to do allergy shots for a whole year. Today, he's a happy, healthy, big boy thanks in part to this food.

THIS ALMOST KILLED MY GOLDEN DOODLE!!!
Google "dilated cardiomyopathy in dogs" with Grain-freevdiets"...We were hours from our Goldendoodle dying from this food....We thought it was good for her and it was moments from killing her. The Vet informed us that the FDA sent out a warning about this in the beginning of August 2018.
