Hit & Miss
Look and feel solid, fast. The manual is wrong with drive function setting, JBOD and Raid 0 setting is wrong. Unit is already set to JBOD. Build material state is aluminum , exterior only, internal drive mount is plastic. Came with all needed parts plus phillip's tip screw driver, 1.4 amp power brick, usb cable. Work perfectly on a Mac Pro.

WARNING
This product is beautifully made. Great quality. But corrupted 2 seagate 12tb drives. Luckily they were only game back ups. But very disappointing. Do not buy.

Good after receiving replacement
3/22/2024 Edit: I quickly received a replacement unit from Amazon and so far so good. It's plenty fast enough for what I need. ACASIS reached out to me multiple times for a replacement or a refund, so for that I will commend them. The case is sleek, feels nice, looks good, and the cables that came with it (USB-C with a USB 3.1 female-to-male converter), and price was great.Previous review: Received unit, installed 2x12TB drives a d proceeded to back up 6TB of data. The next day I transfer more files and in the middle of copying files it just suddenly turned off and now no longer turns on.

made of thick aluminum, sleep mode
This drive delivers on all its promises. The case is made of thick aluminum, and the included USB cable is well-insulated. It offers a satisfactory transfer rate and is of high quality. The technical support team responds quickly and has extensive knowledge that surpasses standard tech support. They can address complex questions regarding your backup setup. The drive operates quietly, and the lights enhance my environment. Unlike other drives, the sleep mode works effectively and wakes up properly when activated by the backup utility.

Value priced but frustratingly slow.
Note, I'm adjusting my review since the original posting based on a different use case and contact with Acasis. Details are at the bottom.I have a couple of spare Western Digital drives that I wanted to set up in a RAID 0 enclosure and use as a scratch disk, to temporarily hold and process files before moving them onto a NAS. I stumbled onto this one and having had a previously positive experience with an Acasis product, I figured this would be a great value for what I need. The metal (aluminum, I presume) shell is well done. There aren't any sharp edges and it feels reasonably sturdy. The interior cage is plastic, however, and cheap feeling plastic at that. I'm not sure why the Vine reviews are so positive about this unit. I'm a Vine member but paid for this out of pocket and can't agree with the other reviews. The screw hole to attach the hard drives don't align well with the drives I tested with (a few WD, a few Seagate, and one older Hitachi). But being a plastic cage, you can force the screws in if you need. The performance, however, is very poor. The two WD drives (both 6TB @7200 RPM) individually tested with consistent 140MB/s write speeds and 160MB/s read speeds. After installing these two into RAID 0 and formatting, then testing before any data was written, I was taken aback by the benchmarking app. To the point where I laughed out loud and thought that it couldn't possibly be accurate. Then I went to try and use the striped array and what I thought was comical turned out to be real. Writing data to it and processing anything was painfully slow. Slower than a single 5400rpm WD Blue drive that I have sitting in a USB dock. When file processing is complete and it comes time to copy the data off of it, that's when things speed up and it's fast enough to saturate (mostly) a 2.5Gb Ethernet connection to my NAS. The screenshot in this review is actually showing the fastest write pass I've been able to record. I've had some read passes at over 300MB/s, which is great. But it's practically unusable with its write performance.I thought there might be some odd OS setting that caused it to slow, but I've disabled Spotlight in MacOS and turned off the feature to spin down idle drives. I've been using it for about a week now and it's just painful. If I can't figure out why it's so slow, I'm going to send this back and try another brand.Addendum to my original review above:Acasis reached out to me for support and I am adding a star to my review since they were proactive in trying to help. After some time with the unit, I decided to scrap my idea of the WD drives. One has been moved into a NAS to serve as a mirror for my Time Machine backup while the other one is sitting in a USB dock and will be used for whatever random storage needs I have which don't need network access. As for the Acasis enclosure, I ended up buying a pair of SATA SSDs (1TB each) and have those in a RAID0 pairing. Benchmarks consistently return 400MB/s read and write speeds so I'm reasonably satisfied now. Both SSDs by individually are theoretically capable of 500MB/s and the USB3 connection should support a striped rate of over 600MB/s. So I still believe there's a performance issue with the controller they're using, but it's fast enough for my needs and meets my goal of being able to max out my 2.5Gb network connection.

An unexpectedly good RAID enclosure - With some caveats that earn a 4 star rating.
I purchased this enclosure to house 2 8TB HD drives which would be used for backups and external file storage. The unit is aluminum, except for the drive cart which is plastic. The 3.5" HD drives fit nicely and were easy enough to install. The DIP switches are mounted on the drive cart, but the included instructions for the the DIP switch settings were not in English. Also, the DIP switch settings illustrations in the manual were incorrect. I found the ACASIS web site and located the English version of the manual. First problem solved Once the RAID enclosure was assembled and ready to go, I attached the USB cable to my computer. I powered up the enclosure and set the drives up. The first thing I noticed was the exhaust fan was very quiet. The second thing I noticed was the enclosure went to sleep after only a few minutes of non-use. The fan would stop (but not the drives) and the RAID enclosure would start to heat up. (Second problem). I tried adjusting the setting in the operating system to stop the enclosure for sleeping with no luck. I went back to the ACASIS web site and found an firmware update. The software that installed the firmware update also let me turn off sleep mode. Not I have a quiet running RAID enclosure that does not sleep but does power down when I turn off my computer. Unfortunately, the firmware update software is a Windows EXE file. Mac and Linux users may not be able to easily solve the sleep issue.
